If you can't get the stains out despite your best efforts, booking a professional service is easy
Keep It Looking New
- 1. Vacuum or brush gently to remove dust, watching out for delicate fringes or braids
- 2. Cut off any snags or loose ends and tuck them back in - never pull them
- 3. Sit on them, don't use them as a trampoline and keep pets off the furniture
- 4. Use arm caps - this is the area that shows most wear
- 5. Swap the cushions around every week and plump them up regularly
- 6. Avoid sitting on the edge of seat cushions, they could get distorted or damaged
- 7. Wipe wood or decorative facings with a damp cloth to remove dust
- 8. Blot that spot; check out our advice on dealing with stains
Keep It Clean & Tidy
- 1. Always follow the manufacturers cleaning and care instructions
- 2. Thoroughly clean all upholstery at least once a year to prevent ingrained dirt, or get a professional upholstery cleaner in to do it for you
- 3. Clean all upholstery at the same time to prevent irregular fading
- 4. Avoid stretching zips when removing and replacing covers
- 5. Get the best fit; put the covers back on when they're just slightly damp and never when wet
- 6. Put the covers back on in the right order: arms, seat area, back and valance
- 7. Allow the covers to settle on the furniture for a day so - if they do need ironing, do this after they've been fitted and use a damp cloth
If a stain won't budge, repeat these steps until it does.
